Wag! Walkers know Park Villas
Park Villas is a townhouse community on Washington Avenue, sitting close
to North Atlantic Avenue. The townhouses have the unusual advantage of having
large backyards, unlike most in town.
The homes themselves are recent additions to the area and are part of a much larger townhome community. The backyards are
filled with dozens of shade trees that make them perfect for a little playtime
with your dog or a barbecue with your family.
One block north on North Atlantic Avenue, there is a small strip mall
where you will find a couple of stores to buy grub for your family, but there really isn't much else in the way of shopping
or dining nearby. However, if you take North Atlantic and head south to the West Cocoa
Beach Causeway, you'll find the central shopping district in town. You can visit several big-box retail stores and a Winn Dixie Supermarket
where you can pick up food for everyone!
What is the terrain like in Park Villas?
Both North Atlantic and Washington Avenues can be bustling thoroughfares
during the morning and afternoon rush hours. During the school year when Cape View
Elementary School is open, the neighborhood
is also inundated with school buses twice a day. Thankfully, there are plenty of
sidewalks for you and your dog to make good use of.
There are grass berms between the roads and the sidewalks where your pooch is sure to
enjoy walking instead of the pavement, especially in the hotter months.
When walking in the residential areas during the day, you
are very likely to encounter a fair amount of pedestrians. With no real changes in elevation in this part of Florida, it can be an easy place to stroll for people and pups of all ages. Keep this in mind when you're wandering out and about as an undersocialized or nervous pooch may not be comfortable with meeting and greeting strangers.
How many greenways are there in Park Villas?
Most of the parks in the city are dog-friendly and have bag dispensers and trash cans for you to use, making it a great place to take a pup. Over on the east bank of the Banana River, there are two parks next-door to each other, separated only by a small neighborhood.
Banana River Park is the perfect place to break out the extendable
leash and let your dog run as long as there is room to do safely. On most days, this shouldn’t be a problem as the park is big enough for a soccer pitch, a nine-hole
putting green, and even shuffleboard courts.
Manatee Sanctuary Park is a little fancier. It has a lake in the southern end of the park
and paved walking trails running around the waterway and throughout the area. There
is still plenty of room for the two of you to run about and there are picnic
pavilions for the whole family to enjoy.
