Wag! Walkers know Dolphins Cove
Dolphins Cove is a small section of townhomes along Ridgewood
Avenue on the corner of Pierce Avenue. Living here puts you across the street from
the beach and close to a large residential area. You are also surrounded by a number of condominium complexes, but
the one thing you aren't going to find much of here are options for shopping.
You will find the majority of shops and restaurants along
the West Cocoa Beach Causeway and, from there, north on Astronaut Boulevard. There, you will
find both a Publix and a Winn Dixie Supermarket, both of which carry enough food
to stock your home.
Given that you can't take your dog on the beach due to city
ordinances, there are several city parks that allow
dogs on leashes. The only
requirements are that you always keep your pup on a leash and you pick up any messes
they may leave behind on your outing.
What is the terrain like in Dolphins Cove?
Living along Ridgewood Avenue puts you on one of the busier streets in town. This road runs through Cape
Canaveral, down to where it becomes Ocean Beach Boulevard at Winslow Avenue. It is one
of the more heavily used roads, not only by locals going to and from work, but also by the many tourists heading to
and from their beachside condos. Morning and evening rush hours can be hectic
because of this.
Unless your dog is used to the noise
and stench produced by this much traffic, you may find it better to take your walks
through the residential communities to the west. There, the two of you are
far less likely to run into a lot of traffic and the roads are flat and easy to manage. The worst thing you are likely to have to deal with in these areas are kids playing in their yards and wanting to pet your dog as you walk by.
How many greenways are there in Dolphins Cove?
The nearest park is Sandpiper
Park on Harrison Avenue where you will find a small space with a walking trail and a playground. There are public restrooms and plenty of shade for everyone to relax under.
A little further north on
Ridgewood Avenue is Cherie Down Park. This park offers a large area of grass and
shade trees for the two of you to make use of.
It also offers access to the beach for everyone
in your family, with the exception of the four-legged
member.
If you want to take your dog along the coast, you have no choice but take a ride to Cocoa Beach where dogs
are permitted. You can hike for as many miles as you like on the sand, using the soft
sand for maximum exercise and the wet sand for a relaxing walk back to your
starting point. Both of you are sure to appreciate the chance to enjoy the fresh
air and sunshine!
