City Center

Central Martinsburg includes the city's historic district and many 18th- and 19th-century buildings in a variety of architectural styles, including Greek Revival, Colonial, and Georgian houses. It's a pleasure to stroll the sidewalks with your pup and view these stately homes. You'll also find the Charlotte Prather and P. O. Faulkner parks nearby. These adjacent parks feature a combined 30 acres of sports facilities, pavilions, and lawns. Locals love coming to these parks to watch local sports teams play. They're also great places to bring dogs to sniff around the large open fields. You will need to keep your dog on a leash in these parks, and bring your own waste bags and water.

This neighborhood immediately west of downtown Martinsburg is where you'll find the aforementioned Ambrose Park and Wurzburg Dog Park. To the north of Ambrose Park is Roush Field, a large grassy area that's a great place for an on-leash romp. Remember to bring your own waste bags and water! You'll find some of the city's dog-friendly hotels in the neighborhood, including the Holiday Inn and Days Inn, as well as one of Martinsburg's dog-friendly eateries, The Daily Grind. This cafe serves a number of coffee drinks and smoothies as well as pastries, sandwiches, and wraps. It has several outdoor tables where you can enjoy a pick-me-up with your pup.

Several beautiful creeks run through this largely residential neighborhood, which is recognized as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. Not only can you continue your tour of the city's architectural wonders here, Rosemont also features two of the city's largest parks. War Memorial Park is a twenty-acre park with numerous sports facilities including a mini-golf course and an outdoor pool. Pavilions and mature trees provide shady spots to rest while sprawling lawns are great places to play. Oatesdale Park features baseball and hockey facilities, as well as a stream where anglers enjoy fishing for trout. You will need to keep your dog on a leash in both parks and bring your own waste bags and water.

West Martinsburg

Martinsburg has a particularly pawsome feature: Poor House Farm Park. This huge 137-acre park includes five miles of trails to explore with your pup. You'll pass through open meadows and wooded areas and by a stream and five-acre pond that are stocked with trout. If you need to rest in the shade, you'll also find several shaded pavilions and the Poor House Farm Barn, an elegant space that can be rented for events. Numerous sports facilities, including an 18-hole disc golf course, dot the grounds. You will need to keep your dog on a leash at Poor House Farm Park, and bring your own waste bags and water.
Southeast Berkeley Springs

Southeast Berkeley Springs

The Sleepy Creek Wildlife Area is located to the west of Martinsburg in nearby Berkely Springs. This huge 23,000-acre natural area includes the 200-acre Sleepy Creek Lake and is a popular site for boating and fishing. Primitive campsites are also available in this incredibly scenic area. You might see wild deer, turkeys, foxes, and grouse as you walk the Tuscarora Trail through the oak and pine forest. Do note that while this is a popular spot where many locals bring their pooches, this secluded wilderness area with few amenities is probably best for pawticularly adventurous types. The occasional coyote and bobcat have been spotted here. For safety and respect for wildlife, keep your dog on a leash at all times, and bring your own waste bags and water.
