Smithfield's Town Center neighborhood is about seven miles northeast of Isle of Wight. This area features a pawtastic park where you and Fido can socialize and get some exercise. Visit Windsor Castle Park in the heart of the city. Let your pooch romp and play off-leash in the dog run. There are separate areas for large and small dogs. Both sections have shade, benches, and water. Registration and a current rabies certificate is required to use the dog park. If you want to spend one-on-one time with your pup, walk along the trails in the rest of the park. Dogs can join you as long as they're restrained by a leash that's up to eight feet long. You are responsible for picking up any waste.

The Isle of Wight is a rural community with a high school athletic field complex and quiet neighborhoods. Walk along the country roads with your pup for a little exercise. When you're planning a camping adventure and want to include your furry friend, check out Big Bear Family Campground, located about six miles west. This facility has hookups and tent sites, a private fishing lake, and wooded trails. Go hiking and view the wildlife, or you can bring boat and get out on the water with your pooch.  Dogs are welcome to camp with you as long as you keep them under control and clean up after them.

West Windsor

West Windsor

The neighborhood of West Windsor is a quiet residential area that's located about seven miles southwest of Isle of Wight. Here, you and your special pal can walk past peaceful woods and fields on the country roads. Just to the north of the neighborhood, go exploring in Heritage Park. Take your pooch here to walk the paths and wander through the fields and woods of this 296-acre facility. Dogs are permitted to join you as long as they're under your control and there's not a special event happening in the fairgrounds. Remember to pick up after your pup when you're in this facility.

East Windsor

East Windsor

Located about nine miles from Isle of Wight, the neighborhood of East Windsor offers a few community parks and family neighborhoods. When you want to spend some time with your special pal, pack a picnic and head to Centennial Park behind Town Hall. This small green space has tables and benches where you can relax with your pooch. You can also take your pup to Robinson Park by the library to get a little fresh air. Dogs are permitted in public areas provided they're kept on a leash and under control. Be responsible and clean up your dog's waste when visiting area parks.
Wakefield

Wakefield

The small village of Wakefield is about nineteen miles northwest of Isle of Wight. This rural community provides easy access to an expansive outdoor facility. Go exploring with fido in Big Woods Wildlife Management Area, located just eight miles west of Wakefield. This 2,208-acre area is furriffic for hiking and viewing wildlife. Dogs are permitted to join you here provided they're kept on a leash, unless you have a permit for chasing or training on the property. Bring along water and waste bags to clean up after your pooch. Before you head to this facility, contact the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to obtain an access permit.
