The tiny town of Somerset is south of the large metropolitan area of San Antonio. Vernon G. Schimel Memorial Park is the town’s only park. This park has a playground, some areas of shaded walking, picnic tables, and a shelter. Dogs are allowed in the park as long as they are leashed and cleaned up after. Schimel Park is a hub for many of the festivities in the town. A Country Breeze RV Park is located at 19575 Benton City Rd. This RV park has short and longer term visitors. The RV park attracts many older people, and a few families. Many of these people travel with their dogs. Dogs are allowed as long as they remain on leash.

Somerset is about 20 miles south of the San Antonio city limits. The city of San Antonio loves dogs. The city has 7 dogs parks situated in all parts of the city. Pearsall Dog Park is located at 4700 Old Pearson Road. Pearsall Dog Park is a favorite play place for the neighborhood and visiting dogs. It is free and accessible 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. This park has a separate space for the smaller dogs. Several pieces of agility equipment are in the main enclosure. The dog park also has water fountains for dogs and people. The surface of this dog park is flat with some sparse grass and desert flora. Picnic tables dot the park. The whole of Pearsall Park is over 500 acres with miles of trails. Dogs are allowed on leash in the main park.

Somerset is about 20 miles south of San Antonio’s City limits. San Antonio is the place to go for dog parks. The city has 7 dogs parks located all throughout the city, so you and Fido will be spoiled for choice. Tom Slick Dog Park is an one-acre dog park located at 7400 Highway 151. Slick Dog Park offers dogs the opportunity to socialize and play off-leash. It also has a separate area for small dogs. This dog park is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. The city of San Antonio has plans to add lights to this dog park. This dog park has water fountains for people and dogs. Dogs have a place to rinse off, too. Benches and picnic tables are added features of this dog park. Another dog park is located at the Timber Creek entrance to the main park.

Somerset is 20 miles south of the city limits of San Antonio. In case you haven’t guessed already, you’ll find more dog parks in this neighborhood! Madison Square Dog Park is located at 400 Lexington. This dog park is conveniently located in the heart of the city, near many restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions. This dog park provides resident and visitor dogs a chance to run off-leash. Dogs play and socialize in one grassy fenced area. There is no separate area for small dogs. The dog park has water fountains for dogs and people. This 26-acre park also has benches and picnic tables where owners can rest while they watch Fido. The main park has paved tree-lined walkways for easy outdoor walking. Dogs must be on leash when outside the dog park.

In case you haven’t found a dog park in San Antonio that you like, Uptown has another choice for you. The 1.5-acre McAllister Dog Park is a fenced, grassy space for dogs to run and play off-leash. A few pieces of agility equipment are good for extra climbing fun. There is no separate space for the small dogs. There are water fountains for people and dogs. Benches and picnic benches give the human companions a place to sit while watching their pup at play. The dog park is open from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. There is no lighting in the dog park, so be mindful of that. The main park also has opportunities for outdoor exercise for dog and human companion. The main park has numerous scenic hiking trails. Dogs must be on leash when outside of the dog park.
