Heartwood Park
The Heartwood Park neighborhood of Copperas Cove showcases the city’s suburban splendor; sycamore and oak trees are scattered throughout the green lawns and small shops that line the streets, and the friendly residents can often be found riding their bikes and walking their dogs when the weather is nice. The lakes in the north of the neighborhood add to the beautiful scenery, making this a great neighborhood to explore on foot. You’ll definitely want to take a walk through Copperas Cove City Park — it spans over 88 acres and includes picnic areas, grills, and even a small duck pond! It is located on West Avenue, and furry friends are welcome as long as they remain leashed.

Thousand Oaks
The Thousand Oaks neighborhood of Copperas Cove is a great spot to experience the fresh Texas air as you walk through the rolling green flatlands past small mom-and-pop shops, scattered ponds, and creeks. This part of the city is the home of Copperas Hill Estates Park. This park is a local favorite for its wide open spaces and small playground, and it provides a lovely setting for a walk with your canine companion. The flat, green lawns extend from Roberston Avenue in the east to Bond Street in the west. The park also has some benches if you need to rest your legs.

Ogletree Gap
Copperas Cove’s Ogletree Gap neighborhood is home to three of the city’s parks, so it is a fantastic destination if you are looking for a taste of nature and a breath of fresh air! Heritage Park is the southernmost attraction on Pleasant Lane -- it is a small community park that provides a great backdrop for a meditative walk. Ogletree Gap Park lies to the west of Heritage Park; it is right next to Ogletree Nature Preserve, and it has a beautiful natural setting and a pavilion. Further north is Highland Park, another small park that provides a great escape from the bustle of the city center.

Clear Creek
Fort Hood's Clear Creek neighborhood borders Copperas Cove’s eastern side, and it is definitely a place worth visiting if you’re traveling through the area with a furry friend — it contains one of the best off-leash dog parks in the area! Fort Hood Dog Park, also known as Comanche Dog Park, is a large park located right off of Battalion Avenue. It has a wide-open field and bleachers for humans to sit on while their dogs run and play to their hearts' content. For even more outdoor fun, there’s Comanche Community Park to the south of the dog park, on Comanche Avenue.

Downtown Killeen
The downtown area of Killeen is located to the east of Copperas Cove, and it is a very dog-welcoming community that has much to offer visitors and their pooches! A good place to start exploring the neighborhood is Mickey’s Dog Park. It is an off-leash dog park located on Veteran’s Memorial Boulevard, and it has separate areas for large and small dogs as well as seats and covered tables. There are also a number of Fido-approved restaurants nearby that have outdoor seating to accommodate your dog, such as Thai Thai, which is a local favorite for flavorful Asian cuisine. It is located just west of the airport.
