Lakeview
Lakeview hosts a plethora of places to stay where your canine companion is welcome to join you, including motels and campgrounds. The Interstate 8 Motel has dog-friendly rooms for a small additional fee, some of which have views of majestic Black Cap Mountain. The Junipers Reservoir RV Resort has 40 sites for campers and many tent sites. Equipped with tables and grills, and on-site showers and restrooms, this is a beautiful place to lay your heads! The Best Western Skyline Motor Lodge welcomes pets, as do the Lakeview Lodge Motel and Executive Inn and Suites in Lakeview, all for a small fee. And there is no lack of pawtastic camping opportunities in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. In the Lakeview District alone there are at least 8 campgrounds!

New Pine Creek
New Pine Creek, just a few miles south of Lakeview, is where the Outback Scenic Byway ends at the California state border, having begun 171 miles north in La Pine. The Byway is a furbulous way to see The Outback of Oregon and its many pawmazing natural wonders, like Fort Rock in Paisley and the massive wall of Abert Rim, a popular launch for hang gliders, but also an impressive phenomenon rising out of the desert. In New Pine Creek, you’ll find the Goose Lake State Recreation Area, a shady, grassy resting spot full of comforts and quiet. A prime spot for wildlife-watching, the campground accommodates RVs and tents, with 42 sites equipped with electricity. Flush toilets and hot showers are welcome amenities, and hiking trails beckon the adventurous! Whichever direction you travel the Outback Scenic Byway, you and your fur-pup are sure to come away with lasting memories!

Bly
Bly is a small town west of Lakeview that is home to the Gearhart Mountain Wilderness, located within the vast Fremont-Winema National Forest. The Wilderness covers almost 23,000 acres of high mountain meadows and glacial valleys with featuring desert conditions. Runoff from the mountain, the highest peak in the area, forms many streams and creeks at its base. Hiking and wildlife watching are popular activities for visitors and their doggos here and the species include deer, black bear, mountain lion, elk, and smaller mammals as well. Significant populations of birds and animals make this a pawrfect place for pups to practice using their keen senses, so be sure to keep the leash securely attached. With 20 miles of established trails, you’ll have lots of room to explore!

Paisley
For a unique experience with your fur-baby, nothing can beat the Drake Peak Lookout for adventure, serenity and staggering beauty. Located on the crest of the Warner Mountain Range near the community of Paisley, the lookout provides lodging in the form of a cabin with wall-to-wall windows and endless 360° views of the mountains in 3 states. At night, sitting at the picnic table outside the cabin or lying in a sleeping bag, watch the stars and the constellations wheel their way across the sky, and during the day set out for a hike with your pooch, looking out for wildlife, or perhaps take a trek to the summit of Drake Peak nearby. The cabin is equipped with basics like cots, table and chairs, and a wood stove, but guests need to bring sleeping bags, cooking gear, and other day-to-day necessities, including water for drinking and washing. For lodging that redefines “off the beaten track” the Drake Peak Lookout is furtastic!

Chiloquin
Chiloquin
is a small community west of Lakeview, and home to dog-friendly Sun Pass State Forest, in the Crater Lake National Park. The
Forest’s 34,000 acres are mostly undeveloped land with some areas cleared for
camping, but with no formally marked trails. That shouldn’t stop you and Fido
from exploring, however. Just remember to bring a compass, plenty of water and
layered clothing, among other wilderness hiking gear. The primitive campsites,
most of which are located along Sun Creek, feature fire pits and can be accessed from main roads. With over 250
species of wildlife making the forest their homes, including amphibians,
reptiles, birds, and large and small mammals, there is plenty for you and Fido
to see! Pawsome!
