Old Ralston is home to Wildewood Park, a furrific place to take your dog for an on-leash stroll. This park has paved walking trails that take you through a lovely forest. You can also pick up the Ralston Connector Trail in this park. This trail takes you through Wildewood Park and into Downtown Ralston. Bring water and doggy bags, and have fun walking here. If all this walking makes you and your dog hungry, head to Spaghetti Works. Sit at one of their dog-friendly outdoor tables, and enjoy a wide variety of pasta dishes, thin-crust pizzas, and hot and cold sandwiches.

Hanscom Park

Hanscom Park

Located four miles from Ralston, Hanscom Park is a mostly residential Omaha neighborhood with lots to offer dogs and their owners. One of the most popular places to go with dogs in this neighborhood is Hanscom Park Dog Park. This dog park has separate areas for large and small dogs to play in. Both areas are fully fenced, and there are trees to keep your dog shady and cool. If your dog gets thirsty, drinking water is available in the park between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Your dog’s tail will wag with excitement when they’re at this fun park!

Fontenelle

Fontenelle

Fontenelle is home to another pawsitively amazing off-leash area: Jewell Dog Park. This dog park is 12 miles from Ralston, and it features separate fenced sections for large dogs and small dogs. There’s no drinking water available in the park, so it’s a good idea to bring some water with you. After your dog is finished playing, put their leash back on and take them for a stroll on one of Jewell Park’s picturesque forest trails. If you want to get a bite to eat after your walk, head over to Culver’s. This casual eatery allows dogs at their outdoor tables, and they serve burgers, chicken sandwiches, ice cream, and more.

Stonybrook

Stonybrook

When you’re in Stonybrook, you won’t want to miss Chalco Hills Recreation Area. Located 17 miles from Ralston, this recreation area has an off-leash dog run with one big field where dogs can run, play, and make new friends. The off-leash area isn’t fully fenced, so be sure to keep your dog under voice control while they’re playing. Chalco Hills Recreation Area also has seven miles of trails where you can take your dog for on-leash walks. These trails take you through the forest and around beautiful Wehrspann Lake. If you need a pick-me-up after the park, head to Green Beans Coffee Omaha. Sit at one of their dog-friendly outdoor tables, and enjoy delicious coffee drinks and freshly baked pastries.

Platte River

Platte River

If you’re looking for another puptastic place to hike with your dog, check out Platte River State Park. This park is 32 miles from Ralston, and it has 5.1 miles of trail to explore with your dog. These trails take you along the Platte River, through meadows, and through the woods. They also pass by numerous small, beautiful waterfalls. If you want to enjoy an al fresco meal with your dog after your walk, there are plenty of scenic picnic tables in the park. Bring doggy bags and water for your dog, and have a great time exploring this park!
