Shreveport Dog Park will have you and your pup howling because there are activities for you both! The city’s newest dog park is ruff-ly four acres, complete with a fenced-in area with separate sections for larger and smaller dogs. After your pooch gets some exercise, enjoy the scenic views of the Red River, which runs through the entire city, or take advantage of the disk golf park, sprayground or skate board park. This waterfront park is just two miles south of downtown, conveniently within walking distance of dog-friendly restaurants for you and your pup to grab some chow after exploring all the park as to offer. The accessibility, bathrooms, shaded areas and ample parking make this park undeniably something to bark about. Take you pooch to the park any day of the week between sunup and sundown.

South Highlands
Virginia Betsy Park is the perfect place to walk your pooch. The well-kept grounds and family-centered atmosphere keep locals coming back and are a treat for those passing through. It’s a great place to have a picnic with your furry friend or to go for a jog! The park features several tables and benches, paved walking trails, a playground and a baseball field. It’s a particularly good spot for morning people. It’s open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., 7 days a week. Just be sure to keep your pup on a leash and clean up after any bathroom breaks! You may also want to bring some water along, just in case.

Marilynn’s is the perfect dinner spot for you and your furry loved one. The casual restaurant welcomes dogs to stay with their owners on the patio areas as they eat quality Cajun food. What could be better than spending some quality time with your pooch and eating New Orleans style po-boys and gumbo? They offer daily specials Monday through Saturday and even have Sunday brunch! After you eat some of the finest local cuisine, make the 10-minute drive to the pawesome 4acre, off-leash Shreveport Dog Park. It’s free and features beautiful views of the Red River downtown!

Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park
Take your hound to experience the great outdoors at Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park! This park features 5 miles of dog-friendly hiking trails, including a handicapped-accessible trail. The visitor center, which includes 3 rooms of live animals and exhibits about the natural world, is even pup-friendly. A herb garden and an outdoor aviary with captive raptors will complete your visit. It’s the perfect place to get in touch with nature and perhaps introduce your pup to some of his more wild animal friends. Just make sure your dog stays on a leash. The free park is open Wednesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free!

Feel like getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city? Head about 15 miles north of downtown Shreveport and you’ll find the Cypress Black Bayou Park and Recreation Area. Here you can enjoy hiking trails, campsites and a nature center. While your pup isn’t allowed at the main swimming area, it can make a splash at the beach area that’s dog-friendly! The lush forestry and vast bodies of water will give you and your hound a breath of fresh air and a break from the traditional dog park. Just be sure to keep your furry friend on a leash and clean up after him!
