If you and Fido love camping, then Montpelier is the place to be. Swarming with dog friendly campgrounds, Fido will be excited to explore the trails and wilderness with you by his side, and then spend a nice evening underneath the stars. Check out the Summit View Campground which allows your pup to be with you if he stays on a leash. The campground is on top of a summit, with an elevation of 7,200 feet. They offer berry picking, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, and ATV riding. There is also water, restrooms, picnic tables, grills, and fire rings available at the camp grounds for you and your furry pal.36

Canyon Rd/ 1st Street
Montpelier Canyon is a great place to go hiking with your furry friend by your side. The canyon is at an elevation of 6,400 feet, and is located right along the Montpelier Creek inside the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, which gives you and Fido plenty of room to walk around and explore. If you do a full day hike through the forest, you will come up to the Idaho and Utah border in Bear Lake. Besides hiking, the canyon offers fishing, horse riding, nature viewing, and picknicking. There is also a campground here, but you are only allowed to use tents. The campgrounds provide restrooms, but not running water, so make sure you bring plenty for you and your furry friend.24

Garfield Street/ N 3rd Street
Take a nice walk with your furry pal around Stock Park in downtown Montpelier. Stock Park is one of the two largest parks in Montpelier, and is a great spot for your furry pal to walk around. The park offers a huge green area for fetch and running, a playground, and plenty of trees for shade. The park also has a center that gives information about the immigration route that passed through the Montpelier area, and sometimes holds local events, so it may be a bit crowded when you and Fido go to take your walk. Make sure to bring water and clean-up bags with you when you visit.12

Bear Lake
Grab Fido and your car keys, and head over to the Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge was originally established to protect and manage the habitat for waterfowl and migratory birds. The 18,000-acres are a mix of cattail marsh, open water, and flooded meadows. The refuge even holds a prehistoric lake, the Dingle Marsh, that once filled the valley. You'll also find bathrooms, small hiking trails, and beaches where you and Fido can relax. While visiting, your pup needs to stay on leash, and be aware that some areas are closed off to the public to help preserve the area and wildlife.
