Grant Park

Looking for somewhere new to take your furry friend for a walk? Try Atlanta’s Grant Park! It isn’t technically a dog park, so your pup will need to stay on his leash while you’re there. Locals love to share how beautiful they find the park. Walkways are paved and well-lit, so if late-night walks are your and Fido’s thing, you’re in luck! There’s plenty of free parking available, both in lots and on the street, so that shouldn’t be an issue. The park’s staff kindly request that you remember to clean up after your pup, and waste stations are available in the park.

We’ve all been there: It’s early in the morning, and Fido’s feeling rambunctious while you’re dying for a coffee. At Atlanta’s Parkgrounds, located about 12 miles from Forest Park, there’s a solution to that problem. Let your pup enjoy playing at a fully fenced-in, off-leash dog park while you grab an Americano at the attached coffee shop. Yes, you read that right! Parkgrounds lets you and your dog both enjoy your mornings. The standard rules apply: Your dog must be friendly with other dogs, and you must clean up any mess your dog attempts to leave behind. Don't forget to bring the baggies!

SoNo

Atlanta’s SoNo’s Renaissance Park Dog Park isn’t as old-fashioned as it sounds. This dog park is actually relatively new, founded about five years ago. It’s the community’s first free dog park, which makes it a pretty pawpular spot with locals. There’s plenty of room for your furry friend to run around while making some friends of their own species, which is always good for a pack animal like a dog. You’ll want to make sure you bring some water for your pup, and it’s your responsibility to clean up after your dog, so make sure to bring waste disposal bags, as well.

East Atlanta Village

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat and you want to bring Fido along, East Atlanta Village, which is about 13 miles from Forest Park, is a great option. Although there are a handful of dog-friendly dining options in East Atlanta Village, there are two pub-style restaurants the locals can’t get enough of. Graveyard Tavern is a pawpular spot that dishes out delicious grilled food to canine customers on the patio. The Earl is famous for their Irish Nachos, which are tater tots smothered in cheese, chili, jalapenos, and more. Bring a doggy bag for Fido because we can already hear them begging!

Panola Mountain

If you and your pup are serious hikers, you have to visit Panola Mountain State Park! It’s less than 15 miles from Forest Park, so you won’t have to venture too far. Panola Mountain has nearly 25 miles of hiking trail winding throughout the park, so even the most energetic of dogs will tire themselves out. Because this isn’t a dog park, your dog will need to be on his leash for the duration of your hike. Remember to bring along water for both you and your pup. You’ll also want to have some waste bags on hand to clean up any messes your dog makes.
