Fun with Fido
The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department puts on an annual series to get Clarksville out and active with their four-legged family members at Heritage Park. Fun with Fido invites the community to come together to the dog parks for some off-leash, organized fun. There will be swimming pools, agility toys, and games for both dogs and children. A select few vendors will be present selling toys, food, and other refreshments. There will be prizes available to the winners of certain games, so you had better start training for the W now!36
Riverfront Jerk Festival
Just when you think you have seen it all in the American South, the Riverfront Jerk Festival rolls through to shake things up! The Riverfront Jerk & Caribbean Food Festival is a one of a kind street festival along Clarksville’s picturesque river walk. There will be live music demonstrations, entertainment for the children, and of course, lots and lots of food! So kick back with your pup and some jerk chicken, and let the steel drums take you to paradise. Admission is free, and a Grand Caribbean cruise will be given away to one lucky registered attendee!24
Lighted Christmas Parade
Nothing drums up holiday cheer for the family like your town’s local Christmas Parade. The Clarksville Lighted Christmas Parade takes place in the evening, so spectators can take in the bright, shiny strands of lights on walkers and floats. Lights are a requirement to participate in the parade itself, and it is a tradition for spectators to get lit as well. The route runs all through historic downtown Clarksville and heads up near the college campus. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome to join in on the excitement as the Lighted Parade comes up on its near 60th year of running!12
First Day Hike
Shake off that hangover and get the jump on your New Year’s fitness goals with the annual First Day Hike at Dunbar Cave State Park! Led by one of the dedicated park rangers, the First Day Hike gives humans and their dogs a chance to start the new year right. Dunbar Cave State Park is home to one of the largest cave systems in the country that has to be seen to be believed. The cave has a long-standing history as a music venue, archaeological site, and geological mystery. This short loop-hike is one of many hosted by the park officials and kicks off at the Visitor Center just in time for the end of brunch.
Dog Day at the Market
One weekend during the season, the Clarksville Downtown Market sets aside time for the dogs of the city. Attendees are encouraged to bring along Fido to browse the usual vendor stands of produce, home goods, and DIY wares in addition to the dog-centric vendors visiting for the day. In partnership with the Parks & Recreation department, there will be a photo opportunity for your pup to enter the online contest. If online contests are not your thing, there will be a costume contest judged on-site for all pups to participate in at no cost of entry.
