NE Dog Parade

Each July, the Northeast Minneapolis Riverfront District goes to the dogs as part of the NE Dog Parade! This eagerly-anticipated event sees dogs of all shapes and sizes get together with their humans for a relaxing stroll through the streets of Northeast. There are wet noses, wagging tails, plenty of opportunities to socialize, and heaps of games and activities for everyone to enjoy. The highlights are the adorable pet costume contest and best pet trick contest, so it’s time to start working on your pet’s costume and ramping up your daily training sessions to make sure you and your pooch are ready to go!

Walk for Animals

Grab your pooch, slip into your shoes, and take a walk to support animals in need. Walk for Animals is a huge annual fundraiser for Animal Humane Society, which cares for more than 23,000 pets each year! Held at the society’s Golden Valley location, the event features a scenic 2.5-mile walk that draws in thousands of dog lovers and their pets each year. There’s no registration fee to participate, but fundraising for Animal Humane Society is encouraged. When you’re not walking, you and your pooch can also enjoy live music, food trucks, fun games and activities, and the paw-fect opportunity to socialize with a whole lot of other animal-loving locals!

Wine & Woof

Love wine? Love wagging tails and woofs? This is the event for you! Wine & Woof is a paw-some fundraiser that allows you to sample some delicious wines and support animals in need at the same time. Held at Northern Vineyards Winery in downtown Stillwater, overlooking the St Croix River, the event is held to support Home For Life Animal Sanctuary. With your dog by your side, you can sample seven outstanding wines, treat your pooch to a dog-friendly tasting, grab a complimentary doggy gift bag, and even meet some pet therapy dogs from Home for Life! What more could you possibly want from an afternoon out?

Fast and the Furry

Get fast, get furry-ious, and raise some essential funds to help pets in need at this paw-some annual event. Fast and the Furry is a 5K run/walk and 8K run to benefit People & Pets Together, a Minneapolis-based organization that helps prevent owners surrendering beloved pets because they can’t afford to care for them. Held at Harriet Island, this dog-friendly festival sees owners and their canine companions work up a sweat and meet plenty of other like-minded animal lovers along the way! There’s even a free pet expo where you can shop the latest and greatest pet products and treat your fur-kid to a tasty treat or three. It’s a mutts-do day out for dogs and their humans, so add it to your diary for next year!

You might want to check out the Minneapolis Dog Costume Parade Walk, hosted by Modern Love Veterinary in Minneapolis’ North Loop! Also known as “dogsquatch”, this memorable event encourages dog owners to dress their furry friends in all sorts of weird, wonderful, and adorable costumes, then get together for some fun, photos, and a quick stroll. There are no winners or losers, the parade is child-friendly, and there’s absolutely no fee to participate.
