Easter Dog Parade
The Saturday before every Easter is a fun day for the whole family at the Easter Egg Hunt and Dog Parade in Avondale Estates, Georgia! While dogs can’t join in on the Easter Egg Hunt, they are the stars of the Dog Parade, which is free to join.
Check-in starts at 9:30 am and the parade will begin promptly at 10:30. Get to the check-in station early, because the first 50 registered participants that are checked in will receive a bag of free goodies! Once the parade is finished (at 11:30), head over to the judging area to see if your dog can win a prize! Categories include Best Costume, Best Behaved, Most Spirited or Enthusiastic, and Best Owner and Dog Duo.

Paws in the Park
Join the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority each October at Ridge Ferry Park for the annual Paws in the Park Event! This event begins with a 5k Doggie Dash and one-mile walk/run. The running events are followed by a day in the park with doggy contests, demonstrations, and more.
Watch the Georgia Dog Gym’s pooches show off their talents in agility and obedience. South Paws will showcase their disc dog club tricks.
This event runs from 10 am to 4 pm and every member of your family is encouraged to join in on the celebrations!
Register in advance for just $15 per person. Day-of registration will be $20.

Strut Your Mutt
Strut Your Mutt is a nation-wide event that gets humans and dogs out walking to help out great animal welfare organizations across the nation! Strut Your Mutt Atlanta draws in a crowd from all over the area for a day of fun. Hosted by Best Friends Animal Society, this event helps save the lives of homeless animals all over the United States!
After the fundraising walk, there is a pet festival where dogs and humans can socialize, participate in doggie yoga, get portraits taken, listen to great music, and enter fun contests.
You won’t want to miss this great event when it comes back to Atlanta!

Simms Mountain Trail
The Simms Mountain Trail is one of the 1600 rail-trails that is supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a non-profit organization that works on transforming rail-trails to nature trails. As a previously unused railroad corridor, the Simms Mountain Trail is now a favorite walking destination for residents of Rome, Georgia!
This 4.5-mile trail is known for horseback riding, mountain biking, and walking. Dogs are welcome to enjoy a nice long walk along the trail! Unlike other trails in the area, Simms Mountain Trail isn’t paved.
Entrances and exits to the trail can be found at Huffaker Rod and at the Cattooga/Floyd County border.
Heritage Park Trail
The Heritage Park Trail is one of the 1600 rail-trails that is supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, which is a non-profit organization that works on transforming rail-trails to nature trails. For Rome, Georgia residents, the Heritage Park Trail is a great place to go for a long walk with their pups!
While on the trail, you will see nature at its finest. The trail is four and a half miles long with entrances and exits at First Avenue and Broad Street and Riverside Parkway.
The trail is paved with asphalt, which makes it safe for unstable walkers and people in wheelchairs.
