Skyhoundz Canine Disc Championships

Do you have an athletic pooch? If you have a disc-catching canine whose talents you are ready to show off, be sure to head over to the Annual Skyhoundz Canine Disc Championships in East Hartford in May. This event takes place in McAuliffe Park where there is plenty of space for your dog to catch all the discs it can!

Admission for watching and participation are both free. Registration takes place on-site, so show up early if you wish to have your dog compete. This competition is open to both expert disc catchers and novice dogs!

Contact the East Hartford Parks an Recreation Department for more information about entering the competition.

Yappy Hour

Are you ready to sip on drinks, eat tasty food, and hang out with your dog? If so, each August, Yappy Hour hits the Shoppes at Farmington Valley in Canton, Connecticut. Yappy Hour is an evening of fun with treats for your pooch from Nora Cupcake Company and doggie bags full of goodies for the first 150 donors, so bring something to donate!

Get sloppy kisses at the Puppy Kissing Booth and enter your dog in the Best Dressed Pet Photo Contest. Meet dogs that are looking for a new home during the event as well!

Proceeds from the event go to Dog Star Rescue.

Brews, Blues, and Biscuits

Labor Day is a time for BBQs and fun, and at the Brews, Blues, and Biscuits event in Avon, your dog can participate in the fun! Spend the afternoon listening to blues music while your dog runs through the off-leash area. There is cake tasting available for humans and dog food tasting for the dogs. Enjoy craft beer, food and cupcake trucks that are there to provide some great snacks! There will also be raffle prizes, including the World’s Most Expensive Dog Biscuit.

Admission for anyone over 12 is $10. Each registered attendee will receive a doggy bag with goodies, including raffle and beer tickets.

Connecticut Pet Expo

Hartford, Connecticut, is home to the Connecticut Pet Expo each November. You and your favorite four-legged friends won’t want to miss out on this event at the XL Center! The two-day event features hundreds of vendors, non-profits, and other organizations in the pet industry. You won’t want to miss out on the demonstrations, champion cat show, or the Rainforest Reptile Shows!

All well-behaved pets are welcome as long as they are leashed.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children between the ages of four and 12. Children under four are admitted for free.

On Saturday and Sunday, the expo starts at 10 am.

Paws in the Park

Head over to Nevers Park in South Windsor, Connecticut, each May for a day of fun with your pup during the Paws in the Park event! Sponsored by VCA Animal Hospitals and Camp Bow Wow, this event features vendors booths that showcase great pet-related products and services. During the event, your dog will love to participate in the fun contests for the chance to win prizes.

There will be a live auction and a silent auction during the event, so come ready to swoop up some great items from local donors! Kids will love that they can play on the Moonbounce and create art during the event.

The first 400 guests will receive doggie bags. Adoptable dogs will be on-site, and these dogs will participate in an adoption parade in the hopes of finding a new home.
